Default Webcam Power Draw: 1.3 vs 0.3 - 05-25-2009, 06:11 PM

I have a Mini 9 with a 1.3MP webcam and a Vostro A90 with a 0.3MP webcam, both running OSX 10.5.7. When I look at the system info, go to USB, and check out the webcam details, it looks like both webcams show "Current Available (mA): 500"

When the 1.3 MP Webcam is idle, I see:
"Current Required (mA): 500"

and with the 0.3 MP Webcam, it's:
"Current Required (mA): 98"

Does this mean the 1.3 MP webcam is drawing 5x the power of the 0.3 MP webcam, even when it's not being used?

I was considering moving the 1.3 MP webcam to my A90 to make it my main machine, but for me, battery life > webcam resolution, especially if the webcam is drawing more power when it's just sitting there doing nothing!

Any thoughts?

No - it's just a USB attribute. Normal USB allows up to 500ma draw, I don't think the data you're seeing represents actual power draw.
