Default 64G Dell SSD on the Mini 9? - 05-15-2009, 05:58 PM

So Dell is offering the 64GB SSD on the Mini now. Does anyone know more about it? Is it a known brand? Are there any existing benchmarks?

It seems like a fair price to get it installed by Dell if it is actually any good. (Though ship time looks to be in JULY!)

STEC 64GB Benchmark

Dell uses STEC SSDs. They are slow compared to other brands like Supertalent and Runcore. There's a price breakdown at the bottom of the linked thread. My advice? Buy a base mini9 unit (4/8GB SSD, 512MB RAM) and upgrade on your own.

Actually 64GB STECs have similar/slightly-faster write speeds to SuperTalent and much faster read speeds than both ST and RC.

RC have much faster write speeds compared to both STEC and ST.

Like I said, ST has similar write speeds as STEC, but much slower read speeds compared to RC and STEC.
