Default MVIX Nubbin Wireless-N USB Adapter & Jaunty? - 05-08-2009, 12:24 AM

http://www.mvixusa.com/store/index.php? ... escription

It is supposed to support Linux. How would get this to work on a Mini 9. Is there a way to force the Mini 9 to use this adapter instead of the built-in Wifi? What about drivers?

I believe OS X drivers will be included. I'll have mine on the 12th.

Probably uses the same Ralink OEM drivers as the Buffalo too!

The driver links you posted are rather dated. Judging by the changelog for the latest OSX driver, you may want to consider heading over to Ralink site and updating since there have been quite a few revisions and fixes for this USB adapter.

Ralink Technology: Support

I used these driver's and it's working quite well. I am still waiting for my 802.11n access point to test throughput speed's. The size on the adapter is nice, I purchased it so I could move it around between different laptops. The size is nice because unlike usb thumbdrives, and optical mouse connectors, it won't break as easily since it does not sit so far out.

Considering the prices for some 802.11g adapters it's not bad, my guess is the speeds will not be full 802.11n speeds and the range won't be the same either since it doesn't have huge antenna's on it.

Now I just wish I had a white Mini so the adapter would match

It work's fine in OS X, will test Ubuntu next, as well as Backtrack 4 to see if I can use it for Wireless Penetration testing.

Pics to follow.

Paint it black or you could just get the Buffalo Ralink-chipset adapter that hytek369 linked to earlier!

I tired it and am returning it, I have ordered the Intel 5300 card with three antennas instead.
I tried it in Ubuntu, I was able to connect and after so fun with wireless connection manager was able to connect only on N speeds with the Nubbin (Ralink). I was getting better signal strength and faster speeds on the broadcom B/G card. There is no linux documentation included in print or on the included CD, after contacting support to see if there was an update I missed they send me a link to the source code for new drivers over at the RalLink site, their help pages included info on how to update in OS X but no mention of Ubuntu (or Linux) at all.

This card is not worth the money when you can pick up an internal b/g for the same price, and can more easily use those cards with Aircrack-ng and BackTrack. I haven't tried the nubbin in OS X or Windoze, but have been displeased with the results in Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix.

my netbook: Mahogany Veneer dell mini 9 with 32gb Runcore SSD; 2GB Transcend RAM; Glow Keys; Broadcom 802.11G card, Intel 5300 802.11 Draft N card on order (with 3 Antennas); Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix; BackTrack 4 Beta Live Boot USB.
