Default SSD Lifespan - 05-04-2009, 03:40 AM

Here's a post I've ran across while doing some research:
http://forums.slizone.com/index.php?showtopic=29361

Any ideas what an average Mini 9 SSD lifespan will be?

a 16gb ssd written continuously at 10mb/sec will last 185 days before hitting the 10,000 erase/program cycles (which is a worst case number for the point at which you will start doing bad block replacement). since it's off most of the time, and you're certainly not writing continuously (neither is the OS) you've got many years of enjoyment before you have to worry about wearing out your SSD.

Controller solutions is important to lifespan. As I know sandforce owns the lowest writing amplification rate leading to longer lifespan.
