No, I don't think you can use thermal paste. Those pads are very thick, and the imprint into them wasn't very deep.

bad news for me. I just tore mine apart and all my pads were fine. My problems are getting worse too. I can't play video more than around 20 minutes without problems.

Just a quick question about the display issue you mentioned. I have only had the mini for 2 weeks now, but one day earlier this week I had an issue where the display would flicker between the normal position and a point about an inch to the left of where it should be. This happened very fast and continuously until I rebooted the machine.

Is that the same problem that you encountered?

Yes. I only encountered it twice, both after watching videos for a very extended time. The second time it did it, the battery was below 10% and when I plugged it back in, it stopped doing it. But it hasn't done it at all since fixing that thermal pad on the heatsink.

Neither. Some ram has a "heatspreader". Some doesn't. Doesn't make it better. The good news is they do fit in the mini.

Well when I was inside mine working on the BT card, I found that one of my thermal pads was actually torn, looking like it had been repositioned or something in assembly. I don't think it's a problem though from my perspective its still covering the surface and making good contact.

When I had mine open recently all the pads but one were positioned properly.
The one on the chipset was a little off, but I re-positioned it with no problems.
