Why don't you use the DellEFI method? There are great instructions here on the mydellmini forums. It was extremely easy with my 10.5.1 retail DVD. There was no command-line stuff involved like that.
Otherwise, these Gizmodo instructions are meant to be used on another mac. Since you're typing that in linux, there is no mach_kernel, and bash gives you that error that no file exists like that. If your friend has a mac, it will work on that. However, I don't understand the point of typing that, as the OS X retail DVD already has a perfectly fine kernel, and the one you're copying shouldn't be much different.
The DellEFI method is what I would certainly recommend.
