Re: Definitive Choice for SSD? - 04-16-2009, 09:05 PM
I bought the 32 GB supertalent from newegg for $85 shipped, and it is definitely fast enough for my needs. My computer boots in 30 seconds into Leopard 10.5.6, and doesn't stutter either. The drive is much faster than that in my other laptop, as would be expected. I used to have the 4 GB STEC with Ubuntu, and this feels much faster. I can actually fit stuff on it now, too.
I really don't think it's worth the extra $50 or so with shipping to get the runcore. My mini 9 feels very fast now, and I don't find myself wanting to buy a runcore. Keep in mind that the OCZ vertex costs the same as a runcore does for the same capacity, and absolutely blows away the runcore. (250 MB/S read, 220 MB/S write) vs. (80 read 40 write for runcore). Of course, the vertex won't fit in the mini 9, but it gives you an idea of how the runcore is probably overpriced.
I'd recommend the SuperTalent for sure.

Just to clarify these are the compaitble super talent ssds? I might cancel my runcore order if that's possible...
Prices are surely more reasonable.
*Also, I just posted the link in the hardware forum of OCZ's new ssd. Not sure on prices yet.
