Unhappy What's the best price on a 64GB SSD? - 04-11-2009, 03:43 AM

Just ordered a Dell Mini 9 and now I'm looking for parts to upgrade.

Obviously I want to upgrade the RAM to the 2GB maximum, and I'm looking for some deals (or just good prices) on 64GB SSD's.

I was thinking about the Super Talent 32GB SSD + 2GB RAM combo deal over at SuperBiiz.com for $98*, but if I can find a decent price on a 64GB SSD I'd rather get that and not have to deal with carrying around external HDs and flash drives and whatnot.

Anybody know of any 64GB SSD's that will fit the Mini 9 in the $120-$140 price range?

Thanks,
----Johnny

Right now, unless you buy the stock from Dell, the 64GB from Runcore is the only game in town. Super Talent, Crucial, and Buffalo only go to 32GB.

You could hack a cheaper 70mm drive in there, but you run the risk of violating your warranty.

Wow, thanks for the quick response!

But wouldn't this 64GB from Crucial fit in a Dell Mini9 without problems?

At $170 it's a little more than I want to pay, but it should work, right?

May want to search forums for abit since the Crucial SSD drives for the Mini tend to blow chunks...

Yes, but the early reports on the Crucial drives are that they perform very poorly. One of my friends bought the 32GB version and he dumped it for a Super Talent.

Yeah I just noticed some of the rreeeeeeallly bad reviews for the Crucial SSD's on their site.
Thanks again for the info guys!

Is it possible to buy a 64GB SSD through Dell?
I bought my Mini through the outlet, so I didn't have the option of upgrading the hard drive when I bought it...

Haha, wow!

Well, I just went with the 32GB SuperTalent + 2GB Samsung RAM from SuperBiiz.com
I probably would have liked the increased speed and space of the 64GB RunCore, but for the price difference I can get a 250GB+ portable USB HD.

Thanks again for all your help guys!

Pick up a 16gb Class 6 SDHC card (search for faster ones as there are performance gaps between various cards, I know I'm happy with my transcend card's speed).

They're cheap (less than $30 generally), fast enough for storing music/documents/and in my opinion SD video files. That'll boost you up to 48gb and the sdhc fits snugly and flush in the sdhc reader.

mini 9
8GB SSD
upgraded to 2gb DDR2
Added Bluetooth Module

Bluetooth Accessories: Sony CDT-HX7BT shelf system, blue tooth stereo headphones, samsung instinct for PAM

I also put a 16gtb usb drive on the box so I now have Crucial 32 gb ($70) + 16 gb SDHC + 16gb USB and I still have room for my 250 gb USB external drive.Cru Plenty of speed for me. BTW I have Ubuntu Netbook remix on teh system and it is killer! No windows. Part of teh performance issue is windows (as usual!)
Check the Netbook remix here http://www.canonical.com/projects/ubuntu/unr
