For what it's worth, my Minis can write to SD cards in excess of 10MByte/s, so the speed of a class 10 card wouldn't necessarily be a waste.
But I share your question. Just sticking a fast SD card in a Mini won't help performance. A fast SD card could speed up a slow hard drive by storing some seeking speed-sensitive files on the SD card (maybe virtual memory/swap?), but any Mini with a SSD
is better off keeping speed-sensitive data on the SSD
...unless you have the abyssmally slow 4GB STEC, like my Mini 9. Fast SD cards are competitive with it speedwise.
