Well if you take a look at Dell's service manual for the mini there are clear instructions on how to replace the webcam. So yes I would say that you could install one after the fact. The only problem I foresee is if your lid does not have the cutout for the camera's lens! Good luck though.

To order a webcam you will need to order a few extra parts. It will cost you more to get a webcam after you have bought the system. tomorrow i will provide the partnumbers that are needed.

I would just buy a small USB one made for laptops that clip onto the top of the screen. It'd be cheaper than integrating it. And would definitely make sure you won't break anything trying to integrate it yourself.

The convenience of having an integrataed webcam is huge though...less things to carry around and less drivers to get to work with ubuntu.

THere is a thread with the list of parts that make up the mini. Also from zaden.

If you don't have the cutout you are going to need to order a new lcd shroud, plus the camera, and possible the cable.

Do you know if the install is pretty straight forward? What do the cables plug into?
