It is VERY common to use Loctite on such screws in portable computers - I have seen this across several brands. Theoretically, there is nothing wrong with it. If I were to ding Dell it would be the use of cheaply made Philips-head screws rather than Torx screws which I see in other brands.

There is also wide variation in the quality and head size across screwdrivers. Even if you use the "correct size", the one you have may be too small or too big - or perhaps the screwhead is not the right size.

True and agreed on the screws. Either way I used a Dremel to create a slot for a flathead and it came right out.
