Ok, i was almost positive that this dell mini i have sitting in front of me came with an integrated mic. I have played with every setting and searched every inch of it for a mic hole or somthing. ( i thought it was next to the web cam, but its just a stupid status light). I was soooo happy with this comp until i realized this. Now i have to buy some stupid thing to hang off the side that i have to carry around everywhere!!!!!! :cry:

If someone can tell me im crazy and there is one great, but if not maybe recommend a mic that is not so cumbersome or doesnt stick out 4 inches from the mic in port.

There must be one, it has video chat, so that must include voice right??? Unless dell expect you to do sign language over camera...

*Ok so i've just tested in windows sound recorder and yes there is a microphone, but i dont know where

The mike is just under the lip where the touch pad is located.

Yes, if you flip the mini upside down, on the front bottom edge you will see the 4 screws and in between is a small hole where the mic is.

BTW, if any of your mics arent responding its because you have to go in to the audio properties, and select mic volume and check the box at the bottom. I feel stupid it took me this long to figure it out( as much as ive used windows, ive never had to use a mic before ops: ) but im glad my mini has an integrated mic. Thanks again guys for the help.

lol - its not the easiest and best placed mic tbh! it took a little playing around to get the mic working, like you said you have to turn it on in the mic settings. I looked quite funny talking up close and around the mini trying to locate the mic lol

I assume you are talking about in Windows. Does anybody know how to get the mic to work in Ubuntu? I have been trying to record a video with sound but have not been able to. Not even with an external microphone, so I've obviously got some setting configured wrong somewhere...

For us with the integrated webcam how do we enable the microphone? I turned up the volume in recording settings but still nothing with soundrecorder. Do you have to use Dell's video chat program or can you use others like AIM?
