I believe you can also purchase the cable if you already have a module.

I just recieved the bluetooth module and cable from hellowifi. It fits and works awesome in dell mini 9. It goes in the same spot as the dell version of the bluetooth module.
I let windows 7 install the driver on its own.

You should also install the dell "wireless select switch software" to control the on/off state of the bluetooth module. I had to make sure it is on before the system detected and installed the driver. Works well with my touch diamond for data tethering. Currently posting while connected to net via my touch diamond.

The module and cable look exactly like the picture shown in the previous post.

so of course, the inevitable next questions are:

1. does it work in OS X (I would imagine that it should)?
2. do you have a installation guide?
3. when can I buy me one of them????

thanks for all the hard work!!!

I will be trying to load OSX soon.
But i see no problems with these types of modules in OSX. I have done this before on another netbook.

The installation is very similar to installation of the dell module itself. I know there is already a thread on this forum showing how to install it, which is what i followed. I will still try to put together step by step software install.

Hellowifi might be posting them on ebay soon.

My only question is what is the difference in the bluetooth cards. The description on Broadcom's website looks like they are similar, with the one dell uses being low power.

bcm2045 and 2046 both support almost every bt profile there is. The only functional difference i heard of is that 2046 support 2 A2DP streams at a time vs 2045 only supporting one. Although i could not confirm it anywhere.

The BCM2045 chip supports A2DP in it's hardware. A2DP really means "Stereo" audio. Where AVRCP means multimedia controller support. In any event, the 2045 chip does support both.

The BCM2046 module has at least two major enhancements over the 2045. It supports two simultaneous A2DP sessions and has a new interface channel to communicate directly with a Wi-Fi chip which will probably be for combo cards.

The BCM2045 is 2.0. The BCM2046 is 2.1. Both are OSX compatible, I believe. For most uses, I would think the 2045 is enough for most people ....

Received today, registered mail. Works in Win7 and OSX. I was amazed how tiny this PCB is. He also included the two screws. Sweet.

Seems to be a pretty popular alternative to the Dell OEM part:

Looks like there is a 5% sale going on ebay. I wonder if it stacks with the live cashback.
In any case if any one is still looking for an internal bluetooth module this one works just as well.

I usually stick with the standard windows bluetooth driver for both windows 7 and vista to avoid bloat. You need to use the linked software in the auction for XP.
