Unhappy Internal USB Connections? - 03-24-2009, 08:33 AM

How many untapped internal usb connections are there in the dell mini 9?

I know there's one on the wwan slot (pins 36, 38), and the webcam uses usb too... Is there an open connector that the internal bluetooth would use? is there connections on either the ssd slot or the wifi slot? Any solder pads on the board?

Thanks in advance for any and all info!

The only ones I know of are the data pins on the wwan, Webcam, and bluetooth. We do not have data on our wifi like the eee's.

they are 3.3v just like the webcam port. Should run most low power usb devices just fine. The connector is right under the keyboard, you can pop out 2 screws and have a look

Someone stated earlier the WWAN and WLAN slots can't support an SSD install. More power to you if you can pull it off.

You could use a runcore or similar via usb...

Actually, I might do this with a big, fast usb stick... cheap bootable, internal storage

About that bluetooth connector, is there a way to buy a cable that would fit in there to reduce the amount of soldering in my mini? If not would it be possible to be to do the same thing but for the webcam usb port? Which one would be easier/cheaper to obtain?

I have the bluetooth connectors and pins, the bad news is the crimper to make them usable is $400 and I aint seeing the profit in that. They are Molex panelmate if you want to look them up. I have not been able to identify the webcam connector yet. Why oh why could they have not used JST (like the webcam itself uses, and like the EEE series use), I got hundreds of them crimped up and ready to go

hellowifi on ebay is selling custom bluetooth kits for the mini 9 with cables... you could ask him for just the cable, should be able to get it cheapish
