Okay, new to this forum...but I have some tough and interesting ideas. We all know that on the Macs there is a built-in accelerometer that allows us to do smack-book, mac-saber, and even build in an amusing theft deterrent alarm. I do love this feature on the Macs, and am going to be doing some research as a novice modder; because adding this to the mini would be one heck of a mod. Anyone know more about this tech or have had the same idea? I have yet to actually receive my mini to see if there is even any space to put one of these buggers (perhaps in place of where the WWAN card would be...?) Good idea overall; I'll keep everyone posted with my research if I find anything. Found the following link as a start.

Here are some links to stuff that has been done on other devices thus far. I really think that this can be done. Only thing would be; could you get it working in OSX. If that's the case...I'll gear up and start buying some hardware.

UPDATE: I have ordered my accelerometer to start testing on this idea. What I got was a Phidget 3-Axis Accelerometer. I ordered it from Sawtus's Shop (https://sawtus.com/sawtusshop/shop/Default.aspx). The Phidget comes with Framework for Mac/Windows/Linux that can be downloaded straight from their site. I will start looking into the scripts/apps that are used for Smackbook/MacSaber/Alarm to see how I can get this device to interface with them. I also need to see how I can mount this sucker to the area where the WWAN card area is and will talk to a couple buds to see how I can get this thing powered internally. Should be getting it in next week, I will test its capabilities on other machines until the mini comes in. Stay tuned!

I will def. post vids on youtube of this if it works...Both hooked p via usb outside and can test and document anything else if people want me to. Neat little mod that I am hopeful will be a breeze to get in and working. What kind of tests would you want to do in the car?

Um, "lateral acceleration", so cornering, especially on the go-cart track that our May autcross meet will be at - acceleration testing, braking testing - you know, normal stuff that everyone does every day right?

The touch screen mod (sold on ebay) comes with a controller with internal USB ports. Will this work for this mod?

If it has an internal usb connection then yes...this device has usb and can be hooked up via it...we need to find a way to mount it and make sure that the framework can be used to make certain motion software work. Most def can hook up that way though. :mrgreen: I want to get that mod too....might as well order it tonight.

I wonder if I could get an internal usb card that I can use without a touchscreen, just for the extra usb port. If that is the case...then dang, I could get the connector and crimp it myself with the cord provided from Pigdets. I did see that the touchscreen was solo-touch, wanna wait until the multiple-touch point ones come out. I forgot what they called it.
