Default How to configure my mini 9 - 02-26-2009, 07:11 PM

I just bought a 512mb ram, 8gb ssd, ubuntu and want to upgrade inexpensively

1-will wait for deal for 32gb ssd as $80-$90 now
2-Obviously can upgrade ram cheap. will 2gb ram run on Ubuntu and does it make sense with only 8gb ssd? buy 2 x 1gb , 1x 2gb, or 2x2gb ram?
3-Changing to Leopard or Windows is not possible with 8gb? If not, must upgrade ssd to 16 or 32 first ?

Thanks for input.

Regarding the RAM - there is only one slot, so you need a single 2GB stick.

Regarding your third item:
1. Not sure which windows you want to install but a better place to look for your answer is the windows forum: windows-forums-f4.html. Lots of good information can be found there.

2. Although I have not done this personally, it appears that that Mac OS X can be installed on an 8GB SSD: much-easier-installation-of-os-x-on-an-8gb-ssd-t2715.html.

I believe all versions of windows can be installed on 8G. I would highly discourage putting Vista or 7 on there though. I would build a scaled down version of XP using nlite or find a version that has already been scaled down and use your own product key. I have a few programs installed and XP pro and am using under 3G of my SSD. That is what I would suggest! Obviously the ram is easy/cheap upgrade and like what was mentioned above you only have 1 slot so get a single 2giger. Hope that helps!
