Hello forum,

So I bought a dell mini 9 from dell's outlet store for $169 last night. I've been going through the forums here and I've decided I'm going to upgrade the wifi card. I got my mini with Ubuntu installed, and I use SSH a lot, and it looks like people have been having problems w/ the broadcom wifi card.

After reading about some of the alternatives on this forum, I decided to get the intel 5300 wifi card. My question is that if I decide to install OS X in the future, will OS X work with that intel wifi card?

Also after a quick search, I haven't seen any power draw info on the intel card vs. what comes w/ the mini9.

Intel does not claim support for OS X for the 5300, and a quick Google search shows lots of posts saying "no". It does say its power consumption is "best in class" but doesn't back that up with numbers.

I guess I'll see if there are any other wifi cards that would work w/ OS X.

nothing scientific, but putting the "transmit power" at 3/4 and performance setting @ 1/2 in the intel properties box netted me exactly the same run time with both the 5300 and the broadcomm.
