Default USB Adapter for Keyboard Cable - 02-26-2009, 04:19 AM

Is it possible to purchase or construct a usb adapter for the Dell Mini 9's keyboard cable? I replaced my US keyboard with an INTL one, so now I have a spare one laying around. It'd be pretty handy to use the mini's keyboard as a portable input device, heh.

I think he means the second keyboard pictured in this thread replacement-keyboard-more-normal-t1402.html It has a more natural key layout compared to the one that ships with U.S. mini's.

It's possible, but you first have to first adapt it to some sort of encoder circuit. The mini keyboard itself has no encoder circuit. Check out Hagstrom Electronics (sorry, I don't have a link for their website, but google should find them). They sell some universal keyboard encoders that allow you to connect the matrix lines of just about anything to the encoder and it converts them to pc compatible keycodes. I use one on my old Atari 8bit computer keyboard. They sell both usb and ps/2 versions. Probably not worth the cost though, considering that you can buy tiny usb keyboards on ebay for under $30.
