Normal (not troubleshooting defective situation) install should take about 3-4 hours, going at it slow and cautious. Realize you will be taking down to bare motherboard, a scary task 1st time. After my 3-4 times it's a no-brainer.

Here's two freeware apps greatly adding to touchscreen experience in Windows:

MouseImpPro adds finger-based web page scrolling ideal in IE and any other window. Plays well with touchpad and touchscreen drivers.

ZWKB adds finger-scaled keyboard filling screen with transparency to see what's being typed. It has enormous configuration flexibility (read read me) to suit taste. Works extremely well when one's totally focused via touchscreen control.

Both are virus-free and tiny size:

Here is MouseImpPro scroll settings I use for smooth finger control without too much aggressive speed. Perfect dragging long web pages such as Engadget via touch:

Would you happen to know if there are any Mac equivalents to these tools?

Best place to check would be ModBook (tablet) forums:

http://forums.axiotron.com/

and:

http://www.modbookgallery.com/forums/

Neither are very active currently but searching past posts from early days might offer something.

Hey guys, I have a mini 9 with a WWAN card in which I use.

Anyone know of another place to put the touchscreen controller board?

I guess I could remove the WWAN card and find a tiny USB one if they exist but I think I would have to remove the PCI-E slot as well don't you think?

Any thoughts?

If you check my pics of controller board (page 5 top of thread) you'll see that it JUST fits in open WWAN space with mere mm space left. I can't imagine any other space large enough for the board inside Mini 9. You can use modelling clay squeezed into between empty spaces to measure what's open space. There's VERY little.

Is it really good for sustained use? any breakdown issues?
I did order couple of laptop LCD panels from taiwan / HK in the past but they don't seem to have a good durability.

I want to use this on OSX for mostly browsing, checking office emails , remote desktop to XP (through parallels , vpn) etc
I also want to mount a Mini Bluetooth USB dongle on the same touchscreen controller card.
My touchscreen has been 100% successful under Mac OS X and it's easier to navigate with the touchscreen than with the trackpad (which I find to be too damn small for real use... and the buttons bother me...). I'll probably be unloading my MacBook nano pretty soon, but not on this forum due to the rules surrounding selling with OS X installed.

Many thanks to braden and Angel for the tutorials...

Default Guys who use this; do you have any inputs? - 05-09-2009, 11:54 PM

Does the laptop screen become fragile /delicate to use? esp if kids are going to use it?
Any chance of finger or stylus tapping causing the touchscreen to crack or break?
any scratches / other issues?
do you use it often to justify the the upgrade?

I am on the fence for a long time and really want to buy this one ops: but I cannot make up my mind as yet.

I tripped on the AC cord last night and sent Dell Mini flying off couch onto carpeting, slamming lid closed hard landing. The Mini just went into sleep mode and nothing else happened. The touchscreen might crack from direct impacts or twisting off, but shouldn't break in normal use. The rubber bumpers supplied surrounding touchscreen help to protect. It cleans up fine wiping away inevitable fingerprints. Kids would need to follow same respect any plastic screen demands.

If Mini is used on desktop with typical long laptop viewing distance, touchscreen loses usefulness. If used close to face (handheld or on chest lying) finger control becomes very handy, it then feels more natural than angling to trackpad. But it never replaces traditional input, instead offers more options depending on what's on screen.
