Belated thanks to you for your kind words!
Like I said, acabtp is the one who found the 5 volt source to tap, which is really the key.
I just soldered wires and stuck stuff together.

I think this mod is great for saving an external USB port, but practically speaking, its kind of a waste for saving room because the Nano Receiver is pretty small anyway.

I do have that mouse, but I always just put the Receiver back in the mouse when I carry my Mini around.

Comparatively speaking, installed on a Mini 9 the Nano receiver is less than Nano, as shown by your own removal of it when it's not in use. Our mini 9s look better without it.
This modification has a dual purpose in that it not only allows me to leave the receiver installed without tying up an external port, but it also brings power to this location for future modifications.
It wasn't about saving room per se, although the receiver also isn't an issue any more.

As I've stated before, I originally was going to install an internal USB hub, but didn't see the need for it until I had other devices to install.
Now that the connections are established there's no reason at all why I couldn't simply install...whatever in the future. :ugeek:

The thing that would bother me about this is that if you're flying, you can't easily disable the transceiver, which is a radio transmitter. Not that I think it really causes a problem, but technically you're supposed to have all transmitting devices off.

Are you sure it's a transmitter, and not just a receiver? I can't imagine that this unit sees fit to send much (if any) data to the mouse.

Furthermore, the whole "no radio frequency devices" thing is along the same lines as not using your cell phones while fueling your car. Let's just say, I've activated my iPhone and posted an update to Facebook from about 6000' elevation on landing approach.

FWIW, an electrical engineer (specializing in the RF systems) from a large cellular device manufacturer has told me that there is *no* concern for the aircraft's safety -- the reason there are no cell phones allowed is twofold: 1. so the airline can charge you bank for use of their phone system, 2. using your phone on a plane would cause excessive "tower hopping" as you move quickly from one cell site to another, stressing the system.

But seriously -- a device that's designed to only work within 30' isn't going to cause issues -- if it does, that's a problem with the aircraft's design, and you'll find MANY more devices that will cause this before your little mouse transceiver.

I feel silly - yes, of course it's just a receiver. I'm not sure why I thought otherwise. Maybe I was thinking of my needing to turn off Bluetooth on my work PC (I have a Bluetooth mouse.)

BTW, I agree with you that there SHOULD be no effect of these low-power transmitters, but there is conflicting evidence from the various studies done. Seems to be more cellphones than WiFi - especially as airlines are now starting to deploy Wi-Fi in the planes. Cellphones might be an issue in their higher powered "searching for tower" mode.

Very cool mod... this could be used with any usb device as long as it physically fits

Thanks!
I'm getting ready to to add a second internal USB port, this time wired from the SSD connector's USB lines.
I'll re-position the first one sideways and put them next to each other.
The idea is to add an internal flash drive this time, but still removable. (16gb flash drives are getting inexpensive!)

Off topic but I'll probably be adding the SDD activity LED mod at that time as well.
I will document and post.

Holy crap! This is badass. I'd love to do the same for my LenovoS10 someday if I were feeling brave enough.

How did you determine where to solder on to internally? I'd like to hunt for it on my S10 as well.
