Default new member issues with runcore upgrade - 07-14-2013, 07:19 PM

New member this is first post.

Dell mini 9 windows xp.
purchased runcore 32 gb SSD.
Runcore clone software would not run with windows cannot open this file error.
Found xxclone and installed the free version.
new runcore was plugged into USB port and I ran the xxclone software to clone the dell ssb to the runcore, following instructions then ran the boot options. Put the runcore into the mini 9 bay and it booted up just fine and ran a bunch faster. Next morning I did the windows xp update and got a bunch of .net upgrades. None of which worked. Error message showed a C: path but said I needed to browse for the right path for the upgrade. I could not find another path to try. No other options and I could not get the updates to work.

looked at the bios and runcore C: looks like it should.

Looking for any help I can find. Mini 9 is running just fine but I need to get the windows xp uprgrade to work.

It is a registry issue in Win XP. Seems like the clone program should have adjusted that for you but I don't see anything on their web site addressing this issue. They do have help section where you could ask via email. Google for the registry editing fixes is also an option.

Have you considered changing to Win 7? XP is really old & slow vs. Win 7. I have XP on a dual booting Mini 10 & every 3 months I boot it up for updates. I can't think of any reason to keep XP but it is his computer, so it stays.

Good point. I found the Win 7 family pack for $70 when Win 8 was just released. That is not bad for 3 computers. I use Ubuntu (FREE), it is one of the more popular Linux versions & fairly easy to transition to from Windows. If you have a USB stick drive you can try it out & see if you like it before installing. Boot time is pretty fast too, not like from the USB stick.

Download Ubuntu Desktop | Ubuntu

I recommend 12.04 although I can't use it on my Mini 9 as I don't have the space for it

Iswartz, thanks for the advice. Would like to get xp working but have about given up on it. Ubuntu looking good or I will look for cheap legal versions of Windows 7.

appreciate the help. runcore makes the mini 9 run a lot better for what I want which is a cheap way to do web surfing while traveling.
