Default Not enough space to install trueimage - 05-29-2012, 02:14 PM

I've just received my runcore ssd to upgrade my dell mini 9 but the lack of space on drive c is preventing me installing the cloning software. I tried tobmake it install on a usb flashdrive but it still failed for lack of space on c: for some reason. I had found 400mb which should have been enough but clearly wasnt . Should I delete more stuff like av etc? Or should I go for a clean reinstall?

If I just installed the blank new ssd could I install xp from an external cd drive??

Thanks- I was afraid this wouldn't be the simple process that the videos made it sound and it seems I was probably right.

Incidentally my runcore doesn't have the mini USB built in, instead it comes with a little black plastic case that connects it to USB.

This is a disaster all round. I would really appreciate some help. Despite creating 600mb of space on my old disk I still couldn't get either the supplied copy or a downloaded copy of true image to install. So as there wasn't much I needed I thought I would just put the new disk in and reinstall from scratch. No problem putting it in. Found xp upgrade disk and old win 98 disk to validate upgrade. Installed xp twice - each time get right to the end and then get blue screen of death. Second time did repair and windows did boot ok but didn't recognise my admin password and so wouldn't let me in. (password was just lower car letters, no symbols etc which might be different on keyboard layout)

I only get one day off a week and have spent it getting nowhere with this. Any suggestions?

Install Ubuntu Linux, a free and open source operating system that is superior to Windows. Get it here: www ubuntu com.

It gets worse and worse. I found the windows disk that came with the dell mini and went through the whole install/ blue screen of death/ reinstall (didn't offer any repair option). Won't let me delete the installed partition to reinstall so dead end there. Installed trueimage from a download on desktop thinking I could somehow clone the drives there but when installed despite saying that the trial version was 'fully featured' it doesn't include the clone - and I realise now that the version that came with the runcore has been obliterated by the reinstall. Is there any way I can re-download that version from somewhere? I can't afford to pay for the new version to clone a disk that may not even work. Is there any other free cloning software that would work? Or is my runcore disk just faulty maybe?

I am so down about this. I wouldn't have considered it except the writeups made it sound so straightforward. I don't know where to go from here.

What a mess you are in with little time to waste on it. 1st I would contact Runcore & see if there is a way to get a copy of the software that came installed on their SSD, it is probably available on their web site. If you want to remove the installed partitian on you then Ubuntu Linux will do that for you from a USB flash drive or a CD. see this link, Install Ubuntu Desktop | Ubuntu You do not have to install it to use & there are good instructions on the right side of the linked page of how to burn a CD or make a bootable USB flash drive.

I don't know that there is anything wrong with your SSD.

Thanks guys. One thing - I know from the writeups that the runcore disks run hot, but how hot is normal? I kept the mini propped up to allow air to circulate under it but it got so warm that the keyboard felt quite hot. Of course presumably about 8 attempts to load windows is an unusual amount of disk activity. I've replaced the original ssd as at least that runs, but as I feared there is not enough space to let me reinstall the av. I loaded one from portable apps instead for the moment.

I'm tempted to try Linux but what would I do with it? I couldn't use iTunes, I gather, or Access though i guess there are things that could open access files. I suppose I've got the iPod touch for Music and video. Maybe I just accept it is a web surfing note-taking machine and try that.

The idea of Linux (it might not be a good one for you) is to boot into Linux with a USB flash drive & delete the partition that you created. You could then format the SSD or just do that when you install windows.

While I do like Ubuntu's Linux, it is not for everyone. I suspect that you can play itunes but since I don't, would have to check it out 1st.

Maybe I'm missing something, But couldn't you just install the runcore, and then windows to the runcore and then take your original sdd and put it into the runcore enclosure and copy the files you need off there? unless for some particular reason you NEED to clone your old windows?

also if you need the runcore original files, PM me your email and i'll send them
