You need to install an OS on the new SSD. The blinking cursor indicates that a boot sector was found but no bootable partition.

not for nothing, but I know that this is off topic a little, but I cant understand how you people get by with 16gb never-mind 8gb, I got 750gb and I only run at about 400gb available....thats 298gb USED, (formatted 750gb is only 698gb), sure wish that 1 Terabyte drive would fit

PS. I got some stuff thats 1/2 your HD
1. Win 7 Ultimate SP1
2. Office 2010 Professional Plus
3. MS Visual Studio 6.0 w/MSDN Documentation

thats over 6gb right there

More power to ya....

you will need either an external DVD/CD drive preferably with its own power supply as where sometimes the Mini does not supply enough power through the USB ports to power an external drive OR you can create a Thumbdrive install, instructions are posted on the board here, just search for them

You didn't say what OS you wanted to install. Download | Ubuntu this link will install the OS I use, just put your USB flash drive in the USB port next to the power supply plug.

Is legacy USB enabled in your BIOS? When you power up, press & hold 2 to get to the BIOS. You can also change the boot order to USB 1st. You can also just push & hold 0 (the number not letter) the next time you boot up to select the boot order for that boot up only.
