Default Old SSD died. New one not working - 12-22-2011, 09:28 AM

Ok so I got this Mini 910 from a friend who said it didn't work anymore. I found the the 8GB SSD was not working right. The BIOS list it, but shows the size as 0 MB. So I did some searching and found this Super Talent SR16C6MME 16 GB drive. It was normally $80 but this weekend I seen it on Amazon fror $40. So now I have it and I install it but the BIOS and Ubuntu doesn't see it at all. I'm thinking it's dead, but don't know if it could be a BIOS issue. My BIOS is A00. So I'm thinking it could no support this drive with A00. And I can't seem to update the BIOS without being able to install Windows. Any ideas guys?

As best as I can tell, that SSD uses the normal MiniPCIe SATA interface and thus is not compatible with the Mini 9, which requires PATA. The rule here is that if the description of the drive does note explicitly mention compatibility with the Dell Mini 9 or Vostro A90, it isn't compatible.

Hmmm
Ok so I'm going to have to send it back. Or at less try to. What should I tell them? I don't think I want to tell them I installed it into something that's not compatible. They might frond on that.

Amazon is very good about taking returns, shouldn't be a problem. Why not get a Runcore SSD from MDD, it is only $50 for a 16GB?

I'm on that. Amazon/MDD is taking the drive back no problem.

Note that if you are buying on Amazon from a third party store , the store's return policy applies, not Amazon's.
