Default Where can I get parts for a Vostro A90? - 10-10-2011, 09:47 PM

My son has a Vostro A90 which came with Ubuntu 8.x. I have since upgraded it several times and it is currently running Ubuntu 11.04.

He loves his little Netbook, but it has seen better days. I need to find the LCD bezel with webcam window. I have found some on-line that would fit, but cover the webcam.

Anyone have a part number list or a good parts source?

Thanks!
~Ed

I suggest you post a 'WANTED" ad in the 'For/Sale" section of the forum.....posting here really is 1st the wrong place and 2nd pretty much useless.

You can try your luck with Dell Sales chat, get a part no. and go from there. be it ebay or dell themselves. or wherever. I got a webcam cable from them a month ago, so they still have parts.

You might want to try the bezel for the Mini 9. The color scheme may be a little off, but it should fit since the A90 and the Mini 9 are pretty much the same machine except for different branding (the former business, the latter personal).

If you can only find the bezels that cover the web camera, I think you could drill out the holes using the old bezel as a template. If your son doesn't use the web cam maybe you could just cover it up. I don't have a web cam on my Mini 9 but on the Mini 10v it looks like it would be easy to drill out all 3 holes. I'm not sure what the 2 little holes are for by the web cam, microphone maybe.

@lswartz - thanks, but when I travel I use the webcam on my HP Mini to talk to him via GoogleTalk.

@Ginsu543 - This looks like it will work! Are all the mounting clips the same as the Vostro? $15 isn't bad I can certainly give that a shot.

@brett89 - I was trying to avoid that again, last time all I got was a headache!

@rrfranczak3 - Sorr if I posted in the wrong place, but I saw hardware and figured that was closer than software or OSX. I did get a few great leads here.

I cannot say for certain because I've never taken my Dell Mini 9 or A90 apart to compare. Best thing to do may be to call Dell and ask them. I recommended the Mini 9 part because both the Mini 9 and the A90 are supposed to be the same machine just rebranded for the personal and business markets, respectively.

Thanks for the information, that makes sense. It's like my son's 600M that is the same as the D600 I used to have at work.

Part ordered, thanks a million!
