Default Has anyone opened the dell mini Battery? - 04-12-2011, 01:08 AM

Just wondering if anyone has done this yet. And whether it would be possible to replace the cells inside with ones that are a high capacity. I know there are replacements on ebay etc but I'd really like a battery that's the same size as the original.

So I'm just wondering has anyone pried on apart yet to see what's inside?

What is inside are four cells and some electronics. I don't think you'll find much increase in capacity simply by swapping cells, and you raise the possibility that the charging circuit isn't compatible with the new cells.

Do you happen to know what size, type they are? My battery is slowly dieing. So I'm figuring when it finally dies it would be worth looking into swapping the cells. I've seen a few people on the net where they've managed to do this successfully.

With regards to replacement batteries are there still issues with the charge lights and needing to restart to start the charging?

not if you just get the battery from Dell and you wont have any issues/problems/headaches and you even get a warranty

I don't know offhand what the cell types are.

As for compatibility issues, if you're rebuilding a Dell battery, that may be minimized, though I wonder if the charging circuitry in the battery will work with higher capacity cells. I have no issues with my third-party 8-cell battery, but I have seen reports of issues from others.

Yeah I guess there could be something in the circuit that would indicate what capacity they are but the few articles I have read haven't mentioned anything about that.

When you say you have had no issues with your 3rd party battery, do you mean that you can just plug in the power adapter and it will start charging and that you don't have the flashing lights or that these issues don't bother you.
