This is Windows' way of telling you that you clicked somewhere in an application's window but it did not process the "message". This could be because the application is hung but most likely it's just that there's too much else going on in the background and the application hasn't gotten the CPU cycles yet.

You can't "fix" it other than by reducing the amount of other stuff going on while you are browsing, etc., and even then you'll see it sometimes.

Not really. I see this sometimes when my Mini has just booted. It settles down after 5-10 minutes.

Default Not Responding Same issue as Anthony - 04-11-2011, 12:35 AM

I have the same issue as you all. I just got this mini 9 second hand from someone that had Linux on it. I installed a Genuine copy of XP on it and upgraded the SSD to a SuperTalent 32GB, and upped the RAM to 2GB. I have no processes running that would cause it and plenty of RAM. When the Not Responding occurs, I monitor my task manager and it is baffling to see absolutely nothing in the process tab that would be causing it. CPU stays at System Idle 99 while the application tab shows the apps not responding. You two are correct, it is the worst when I first boot up, but the problem mysteriously finds it way back after a while. I have worked on plenty of computers, and it is what I do for a living (only 7 years). This one is really kicking my butt. I really can't help but wonder if the Super Talent SSD is causing the trouble. So I spent the last 2 hours painfully failing at trying to install XP on a external hard drive to test my theory. I contacted Super Talent via email and they had me run some read/write test and they emailed back saying that all is well with the test and there was no firmware updates available for the Super Talent SSD. Just curious Anthony, is your Super Talent SSD the FEM32GFDL model?

I noticed that holmes, makes me really wonder. You never experience the NOT RESPONDING issue after 10 minutes?

Default Researching - 04-11-2011, 10:20 PM

I have been researching some claims that Microsoft dskcache tool will fix the freezing/not responding phenomenon. But I am not able to find the tool for XP....yet. Hope I can find the dskcache tool or if someone knows about it here.

When Windows first boots, especially on a system that has a lot of stuff loaded, there are a bunch of background processes that kick in, looking for updates, setting up services, etc. Until these complete, the system can seem sluggish. I find that once it "settles down" I rarely get the "Not responding" message. I won't say never, but I can sometimes see that on my quad-core Core i7 system too.
