Default 2g memory upgrade question? - 03-31-2011, 03:08 PM

Hello to all! I recently upgraded my dell mini 9 with a new 32g ssd. I also payed dell to help me install operating system and drivers and utilities. But it seems the computer is slow loading between screens and i am always waiting for it to load and if touch it before done loading it will freeze. My question is will a $30 dollar 2g memory upgrade take care of this problem? I really like this computer. When i call dell they patch me through to india and they say the slowness is normal but i dont believe, because even when this computer only had 8g ssd and was new it was faster. Dell even sold me system mechanic saying this would make computer faster it has not and i am out another $39.99 Please help me, getting frustrated with slow computer. I am wanting to order 2g memory but hoping to get some feed back before doing so. Also what should my virtual memory settings be for my .99g memory right now?. My wife plays cityville on facebook does this require a lot of memory? Replys and advice are very appreciated.

A 2GB RAM upgrade can't hurt, but it probably won't help much with basic uses. Gaming can benefit from more RAM, but I expect Facebook games don't need much.

Which 32GB SSD? Some SSDs have poor performance.

Mini 9 | Intel 5100 Wifi | Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook
Mini 1012 | SSD | Intel 6200 Wifi | Ubuntu 11.10 64bit

Default 2gb ram - 03-31-2011, 10:04 PM

I installed the 2 GB Ram a while ago, and I saw a good improvement in the speed. I think one of the keys though with these little Dells is to keep your hard drive as free as possible. If you don't really need it don't store it.

That's a good mantra to live by with any computer, not just a netbook!
