Default Is the microphone jack a stereo input? - 10-14-2008, 06:38 PM

I wondered if anyone has found out if the microphone jack input is stereo or monaural.

Short answer: It is a monophonic mic input only.

Thanks. I was hoping that it was like the mic jack on my Compaq notebook. They only added the bias voltage for a monophonic electret condenser mic, but if you connect a regular stereo line input with the levels turned down appropriately, it was actually a stereo input.

The reason I was asking is that the mini will be a fun unit to use for software defined radio 'stuff, where the computer acts as a digital signal processor. A stereo input makes things easier, but you can still have fun with mono.

Thanks again!

Yes, I tried using a stereo cable going in to the mic jack on the mini and it is just monaural.

By default, the Windows "Recording Control" mixer takes what would be "left channel" audio if you used a stereo mini-jack and feeds it to software applications as both left channel and right channel with identical sound data. If you want to treat it as a single channel for applications like software defined radio demodulators, you can slide the mixer balance control on the "Mic Volume" all the way to the left. That way the right channel does not send audio data to the application.

Lots of software defined radio (SDR) applications use one audio input channel for the signal and the second audio input channel for the signal shifted by ninety degrees, or in quadrature, also referred to as I/Q format.

Default Did you eventually have it working ? - 08-17-2010, 01:05 PM

Hi Jack,

Were you able to use your I/Q SDR receiver with the Mini9 ?
I wanted to use a SoftRock Ensemble RXTX with my wife's Mini9 but I have no image rejection.

Regards,
Yannick.
