Lightbulb Wi-MAX 4G internal card availability? - 08-18-2010, 10:02 PM

Ive seen Dell start offering 4G connectability in some of its systems as a optional add-on. This is great and could also mean its available as a card we can install into out netbooks with proper antennas. My question is Where would one look for these? I currently have a Clear 4G home desktop modem and use it along with a inverter inside my vehicle. I live outside the actual service area and having to set this up every time is a pain plus the space limitations inside the vehicle sometimes makes it difficult to use. (all the wires and cables plus the modem itself) I figure if this were available as a internal card we could purchase and set up with the provider for service, the 4G desktop modem would be able to stay at home safe from accidental spills and dropping heavy objects onto it. I'll keep searching the interwebs for a solution but also looking here for possible answers as Clear does not or will not provide this option. They do have a very portable 4G to wifi device that has up to (6 Hrs?) battery life before needing to be recharged. Its nice n all but needing more time on the web than it can provide. Any and all responses are appreciated.

EDIT: Found a Intel 6250 half-height PCI-e card offered on another forum for $50 BUT will it connect properly into a mini-9 allowing at least the WiMAX to function? I'm not sure about the technical details and perhaps a Mod could investigate this further for the good of us all on the forum and dare i say . . . worldwide? I do know that it will eat the battery life more than just using WiFi alone BUT its not really a concern for me ATM. Besides The Extended use battery is still available from MDD i believe and for a very good price.

UPDATE:

Finally found again the site I originally found (this time bookmarked for future reference) With a person selling the exact card im looking for. Ive asked him permission to set a link here in this thread for all to follow to his on the other site so until he agrees, i cant. Ive also (in the same e-mail) requested to be set up to purchase one of the cards and have it shipped to me. As soon as I receive this card, I will post pics of it and the install process which is relatively simple, just like changing out a wifi card. No its exactly like that except the newer one is a bit shorter(half height). Ive called and confirmed with my WiMAX provider that these cards will work with their system and switching service from one device to another is a simple 5 min call to give them the new MAC address. Thinking i might need different antennas to optimize the connection but not sure yet.

The Intel 5150/5350 or 6250 cards should work.
