I'm no expert by any means BUT I'd just read this in another section of this forum. Go into Bios and see if the reported capacity is the same or near the actual size you have. If so, Try formatting it to your choice of file system. IF that succeeds then continue on and install your OS of choice. Hopefully its not corrupt/dead and you will be happy again. Also I just had a small fight with my external drive. Somehow the MBR (master boot record) got corrupted when I tried to DL another file into it. Saved what was necessary with Recuva (free program) and overwrote the rest. This was after i had to re-format the drive since the program wouldnt see anything with the MBR being corrupt. BUT id just learned I could of f-disced it and somehow fixed the MBR without re-formatting it. Old DOS commands still useful and possibly worth time to learn.
GOOD LUCK!!!
