I've picked up one of these "BetterPower" batteries from MDD. I ran it dead and plugged in to recharge, all I get is a white light on solid and the orange one flashes. I'm on Bios A06. Did I get the wrong battery or a bad one?

Try unplugging and replugging the battery - I just received a new one after I stuffed the old one by discharging it below the safety cutout

I can confirm under SL 10.6.3 using A04 bios (which I prefer) I have not had any flashing lights - only issue so far is it seems to reach 99% and never 100% whist charging. However if plugged in and turned off the white light will go off indicating it has a full charge.

not for nothing but, I wouldnt plug one of those into mine....maybe yours works fine...but I wouldnt take the chance..dont want to down grade those who have one but I would rather stick with what its supposed to have,,mine lasts anywhere from 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hrs depending on what I am doing... I dont have a Mini 9 (Mini 10... 1010) but I am kinda stuck with Dell it may cost more but its warranty covers my system...just my 0.02..dont get mad at me guys..just my opinion..

I've tried what grungysquash suggested. Didn't have any luck. I've got an email out with MDD to see what they think. I got the battery for a trip to Mexico, not sure I'll be taking it with now. Hopefully I can get the issue resolved. I might try downgrading to an old bios to see if I can get it to charge.

Well I downgraded my bios to A00, A04 and A05. Battery still didn't seem to charge and battery light blinked.

Didn't hear anything from MDD yet, waiting on them to find out if my battery is bad.

Anybody else have any ideas?

It is possible the battery has been discharged below the safety cutout - in which case you are out of options. IMO the 8 cell batteries have a higher likelihood of failing at full discharge, my original 8 cell battery is now in the bin I have another one which is working fine but now consider these batteries to more susceptible to failing and would not like to discharge on any closer than 10% of full discharge, not that discharging any Li-on battery is actually good for it, just that these non dell batteries may not have electronics that allow the bios to run a cycle deep recharge like the OEM ones.

Just wanted to update, I'm working with MDD to replace the battery, they have been very understanding about the whole situation. Hopefully I have better luck with the replacement.

Am I the only one that has thought about putting a handle on this extended battery like the new HP 1502? I think one could attach it to the "extended" part of this battery easily.

My partner just got a Nokia Booklet 3G which comes with a 16 cell battery that gives 12 hours of run time. It is completely flush with the machine and the Nokia weighs the same as the Dell Mini 9! I am wondering how Nokia has achieved this given the clunky monsters we have to attach to our Dells!
