Default RunCore Pro IV - How good??? - 05-09-2010, 11:06 AM

I want more space and am looking at spending the premium for a good SSD. Please tell me though, I expect boot times etc. to improve but, what apart from this will get better. For instance, is YouTube likely to get any less choppy or is that a pure CPU issue?
Anybody found that previously dog slow programs, utilities, or web pages have suddenly become useable after such a change. Or have benefits largely been confined to app. opening times etc?
Could someone with the Pro IVs please pass on their experiences on what is good and what is not about these upgrades.
I presume I could expect improvements regardless of the OS, but for info., I am running OSX.
Thanks all for input.

I see you have a Kingspec SSD. These are awful. You will see a definite improvement with the Runcore, including boot and program load times. It won't make a whit of difference to YouTube performance which is strictly CPU limited, and I doubt web pages will load any faster.

Yes, you are right about the Kingspec. - although OSX still loads reasonably fast, there are a few little annoyances where I feel response could be snappier. Benchmarking the Stec before inserting the Kingspec showed the Kingspec to definitely be slower than the original equipment, so it'll be interesting to see how the Runcore performs.

Still, at least the runcore comes with an enclosure for my old SSD, so it'll make the Kingspec into a reasonable USB stick and of course was dead cheap on eBay. I guess it is true though that you get what you pay for......
