I'm hoping that some of you speed junkies will be running comparisons and/or comment on the three different RunCore SSD
models for the Mini 9. I upgraded my Mini 9 with the original 32 GB RunCore (the Pro?) in fall 2008, shortly after I got my Mini. My Mini's speed seemed to really pick up when I installed Win 7 Ultimate, probably because it was a clean install.
I don't NEED a new SSD
(don't use my Mini all that much, drive still has about 10 GB free, store all downloads and data files on a 16 GB SDHC that has less than 3 GB in use) <g> but the new Pro Light looks nice. I'm wondering how much of a speed boost I'd see with it compared to the original RunCore that's already installed (32 GB for both).
According to the specs on the MDD web site, the Pro has sustained reads up to 78 MB/s and sustained writes up to 44 MB/s. No info on random reads/writes.
The Pro IV Light has sustained speeds of up to 90 read/ 55 write, or 15-25% better. I'm not sure how that translates to real-world speed, though. (random RW speeds are 18/5).
The Pro IV T-style is 81 read (similar to original Pro, slower than Pro IV Light) / 62 write (better than both Pro and Pro IV Light). Random R/W are 21/18. That random write speed is much faster than the Light.
Any comments or input is appreciated... You know how it is when we want toys.
P.S. Any comments on the new long-life battery? I'm thinking about getting one of those, too, although I wouldn't use it that much. Still, it might be nice to have. Looks kind of clunky.
