In my experience, you need the third antenna. But that's not your immediate problem.

Are you getting the dreaded "Error 10"? Others here have had that. I've never seen it myself. Where did you get the 5300?

"This Device cannot start. (Code 10)" So Error 10 then? Why is it so dreaded? Is the answer going to impact my happiness? lol

Some random ebay thing. "Shenzhen Wewei Technology Co., Ltd" says the card that came with it. fail?

so the antennas are just that, antennas and the device SHOULD start without them plugged in at all. Or will placement bugger it all up? Do then have set spots. I have 2 wires and 3 plugs 1, 2 and 3.

Cygnes,

I had the dreaded code 10 problem with three different cards (one from China, two from a US seller). I did a bunch of reading on the web and it seems that there are different versions of the 5300. If you get one that's designed for a specific brand of computer, it won't work in our Mini 9s and you get that code 10 message.

I have ordered a Dell-specific 5300 card from ebay. It's more expensive than the others I tried (not quite $40, including shipping), but if it works, I'll be happy. By the time I lose shipping to me and back and the cards I've had to return, I'd have been better off just to get the Dell card.

Cygnes, many people who bought 5300 (and 5100) cards from Chinese resellers have had problems with them. The "Error 10" is dreaded because there seems to be no way to get around it. As I understand it, these cards were intended for notebook manufacturers, or might be production rejects. The 5300 I have has been trouble-free.

The worst that will happen with two antennae connected is that your N range will be less than optimal.

Steve, I am not familiar with this 5300 how does it compare to the 1510?

Well, the 5300 is a "3x3" card which can support three streams from access points with that feature, for up to 450Mbps. (That's also why it needs three antenna connections.) It supports Intel My WiFi technology for sharing wireless access, though if you have Windows 7 that can be made to work with other adapters. It seems to have very good performance in terms of signal strength, and Intel claims "best in class" power use.

On the other hand, the 5300 (the 5100 is the 2 stream variant, and the 5350 adds WiMax) is not sold or supported for the retail channel. It was perhaps an oddity that I was able to buy mine directly from amazon.com at the time - they no longer carry it.

One big difference is that the 5100/5300 supports 802.11a, which many businesses use.

thanks for the info Steve, I really have no need to use my Mini as an access point so I guess the 1510 card will do me fine...at least it has wireless 'N', now I just gotta get a Wireless 'N' router and put the Wireless 'G' away, at least it has speedboost on it though...thanks again....Rich.....
