Default Mini 9 tablet slider? - 01-30-2010, 07:36 PM

Has anyone given thought to a mini 9 tablet slider? I did a quick mock up to see what it might look like and think it would be cool. Not sure of what hazards lie in the hardware and wiring for something like this?

Any progress on a capacitive touch screen for the mini 9?
What about Snow Leopard and touch at this time?

Would be interesting to port over the new ipad software and run an OSX/Ipad dual boot system somehow?

that would be really cool, but it's probably easier to rotate the screen around than figure out how to slide it and make all the wires work.

I don't think any slider-type products have been a success.

I have looked for hours to find a capacitive touch screen but I can't seem to find anything.
But I DO know that one exists. Check out this thread: Dell Mini 9 with capacitive touch

As for OSX, I've read on some threads that OSX can handle the touch. But I'm not too sure about it. Once again, it possible.

More power to ya, I guess.

But, honestly, I don't see a single advantage to this over a clamshell, in a device the size of a Mini 9.

3m's page has an option to select product screen size, but the link is always missing or down for maintenance.... *frowns

This slider idea really has me going, any ideas on the slide mechanism? I'm tryin a mock up using the slide rails from an old DVD rom and the lens magnets to hold/lock the screen section in the open and closed positions..

Update: Was able to salvage some parts from the dvd rom and an old sony vaio.. I mainly was planning to just do away with the keyboard entirely and just use a touch screen, but I kinda like having tactile feedback every now and again, the on screen keyboard takes up a lot of room on that small screen sometimes and most of all I'd be losing all the keyboard shortcuts (wireless toggle, volume, brightness). So here are the things I wanna out in place:

- paired magnets to lock sliding screen in place in locked and open positions
- sliding rail to allow halves to glide apart and together smoothly
- bevel trigger switch to auto rotate screen to landscape orientation
- replacing power switch with momentary push button with an extended trigger to side mount it
- orientation sensor (courtesy rock99rock)
- integrating flex strip to connect panels (also grabbed from the rom drive)

what do you think of my mock up pdf?
