Default mini 9 will not read new battery. - 01-13-2010, 02:23 PM

I have a mini 9 and I bought a 8 cell battery for long trips that I take often. i installed the battery and get a warning before os boots saying

WARNING: The battery cannot be identified this system will be unable to charge this battery.

If you could help I would be that would be great.

This is normal behavior for most aftermarket batteries, especially with BIOS A05 (and probably A06). I suggest going back to A04 if you want to use this battery. You may still get the warning, but you can usually get the battery to charge by unplugging and reinserting the power plug.

Dell I910 Mini/Vostro A90 USB Key Drive flashBIOS Utility

Choose "Legacy" at the first menu to get at older BIOS revisions.

If you've recently bought it and can still return it, my recommendation is to do so.

The above solution works for maybe 10% of the DM9 extended batteries available. Most batteries require downgrading to A00. A04 may allow charging if the battery is swapped with the OEM battery while plugged in and you may get flashing lights while using it. MDD provides a better working battery (bios-wise) and you will not need to lose bios fixes from the current versions.

If you cannot return it, try the above first for A04. If that does not work, you will have to try A00.
