Default What have you stuck in the empty WWAN spot? - 12-24-2009, 05:50 PM

I am just curious what others have put there.

Edit: while I am at it.... can anyone tell me if what I am thinking about doing will work?

I want to take this sdhc usb card reader .... http://images.marketplaceadvisor.cha...X07_3_es_L.jpg ....... remove the shell and the usb plug and hardwire it into the wwan spot. But I am not very good at soldering really tiny spots like the wwan socket connections.... so what I am wondering will work if I just wire it into one of the extra usb slots on the side of the mini 9 (I only need two usb slots for regular use). I have an extra 8gb sdhc card I want to use as extra storage (mostly just to hold movies).

WOuld this work.... or am I wrong? Or is there a better way?

you could do it, but the traces are very small to solder to.

might consider solderless hub to cam port, then you could add a touchscreen, card reader, thumb drive, etc. I summarized what people had added, and where here

a summary of internal mods on mini 9

I was talking about soldering it directly to the contacts of one of the three stock usb ports.

sure, you can solder inside to the usb plug easily enough. you might consider plugging a usb plug into the port and slipping the wire inside to the WWAN area. this makes it solderless and won't void your warranty. I did this on an eeePC last year.

EeeUser Forum / touchscreen with no solder and no holes in case

and, if you plug in a hub, you can have 4 ports to add things (touchscreen, GPS, etc)

good luck.
