Default 13" mini 9 - 12-13-2009, 02:24 PM

Hi guys.

I've got a spare mini 9 kicking around and I want to put it into a 13" - 17" laptop case. I'm fine with fitting it in etc, but the only things I'm not sure about are the screen and keyboard connections. Does anyone know how difficult it's going to be to graft them to the mini 9 board? (or are they std Dell connections?) I've not got a dead donor laptop yet, so i'm open as to what make to get. It needs to connect to the donor screen from the motherboard for bootup, bios access etc, rather than on the rgb out.

Just a quick note on why I want to do this: I've got another mini 9 (also with osx on it) and for what I use it for, it works well. So, with the spare reboxed, it would give me oodles of room to put a big hard drive in (on the usb), fit a GPS, hubs, upgraded battery etc. This would give me a lightweight, ultra-quiet laptop, with a nice sized screen and loads of space to add more devices. It'll also give me a full size, perfectly working osx machine.

If the screen and keyboard connections are feasible, then it's project on!

Laptops/netbooks are notorious for non-standardized connections internally. One big issue you'll have is that the Mini 9 uses an LED-backlit display which does not have the inverter that a larger laptop display would have.

The keyboard connector is also likely to be not interchangeable.
