Default Smaller Charger on eBay - 12-05-2009, 01:13 PM

I found this one on eBay, 8 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm for under $12! There is a long cord to consider in the total weight/size, but you can cut it shorter and add a new plug. Seems to work fine. I bought a Mini 9 personally for work, as I am tired of lugging around 7 pounds of laptop/charger.

Look for "19V 1.58A 30W battery charger for Dell Inspiron Mini 9" and/or seller "vintageplace23".

What? The standard Mini 9 charger is tiny and light - smaller and easier to use, I think, than the one in that auction.

You wouldn't happen to be the seller, would you? Odd that you'd join MDM just to post this...

I apologize for any discomfiture; I am not the seller, as said vary clearly "I found this one on eBay..."

This charger is about 1/2 the size/weight of the stock Dell charger

If you have never traveled, you have to realize that every extra ounce feels like a pound after a week or two on the road.

Thank you.

fwiw once you add in the power cables it doesn't look like it's a savings. in fact i bet it's more... [edit]especially by volume.[/edit]

I agree. The Dell AC adapter in fact is very light, despite it's size. Part of that "hump" is hollow.

You are right it is not that much heavier: Dell charger 6.5 oz, 3rd party charger just under 5 oz (with power cord shortened).

But the Dell is more than 2X the volume of the other (cords included).
Again, for someone who travels (hence the Mini 9 purchase) weight AND volume matter!

Plus I guess if nothing else it appears to be a cheap replacement...

Actually, if I were looking to replace the dell charger right now, I would definitely consider this. The Dell "wall wart" is cute and light, but it's inconveniently shaped. I would definitely consider this 3rd-party replacement, especially if I were planning on carrying my mini 9 everywhere or were doing serious casemodding and wanted to integrate my power supply.

Mine? In pieces, on the dining room table, waiting to be assembled into something new. For a couple of days it looked silly. Soon it will still look silly, but will have a bit of style to it.

the dell charger doesn't have the 3rd prong?, doesnt that mean there is no ground?, my charger for the Mini 10 looks just like that but it has the 3rd prong..or is that only in the US?..

The charger for the Mini 9 is ungrounded. This is very common in the US.
