Ok sorry but I am a bit confused here. In the picture we see the old charger, the one that comes with the Mini?
On the right is the new charger? How does it plug into the Mini?

The adapter on the right does not have the AC cable connected. The thin cable coming off the top ends in a plug that connects to the Mini.

Default not so unusual.... - 12-12-2009, 04:19 PM

That charger looks very much like the ones that came with my Asus Eeepc and HP Mini. Different output voltages and plugs, of course. The one for the HP has an approximately 6' three conductor input cord that has a three prong "Mickey Mouse" looking female plug to mate with the charger. Its output cable is about 4.5' long. The ASUS charger has a two conductor input cable that's about 4.5' in length, and its output is nearer to six'.

As the OP stated, those detachable cords could easily be cut to length for less packing volume. I've always hated wall warts, as the wall sockets are often loose and the warts fall out. I'm thinking I'll probably cut mine to about 1.5 - 2' so the charger can rest on the floor and put no strain on loose wall sockets.

Your opinion, as well as your mileage may vary!

so, as fate would have it, my daughter managed to lose two of the ac adapters and i found myself in the market for a couple of replacements.

first i checked out dell prices for a replacement. and $50 was not to my liking. so i dredged the soft white underbelly of the internet and found these. at $5 a pop it was no contest. i bought four of them.

and btw they are not smaller than the stock adapter. it's about the same volume including all the cables. it also features a thing i hate about these chargers:
1) two cables
2) wire twist ties
3) wart in the middle of the cable

at $5 it's worth putting up with the extra hassle (as long as it's not MY charger). but they are not smaller. only cheaper. we'll see how long it actually lasts.

I've got one. Works well. They're cheap enough that you can buy one as a spare, or to keep at the office in case you forget yours or whatever. It's not great for using in bed, though, as the cord going from the brick to the laptop isn't quite long enough (hangs off the side of the bed).

quick update: the cheap charger doesn't charge the extended batteries, only stock ones.

pay less = get less.
