Shouldnt this thread be in the Hardware forum or something instead of Accessories / Peripherals?

It's quite a bit thicker than 5mm... probably around 8-10. Next time I have it open, I will measure it.

Right now, I'm not sure, but I want to stick a hub back there, so check back soon.

Source is BuyGpsNow.com, there's a link in my original post, but here is it again. Gum and paperclips might work as well, I don't know if you are The Professor, MacGyver, etc.

I actually just pulled apart a piece of old Cat5 cabling I had around and used the signal wires from it. They come conveniently paired. The only downside is that they are solid conductor, so that can stress your solder points when you are moving things if you are not careful. My choice for wire if I'd actually felt like going out to buy some would have been about 30 gauge stranded.

Eh, 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. Hardware's more about what the Mini comes with. Accessories / Peripherals is more about what you add to it. I decided Accessories / Peripherals had a slight edge.

I was considering using "wire wrapping" wire, which is also 30ga, but solid core.
I like your cat 5 idea too though, as the power wires need to be longer and (in my case) withstand re-disassembly in the future.

I'm planning on performing my internal hub mod this weekend. I'll post pics.
I was going to wait to get a GPS dongle, but decided that mounting my Logitech Nano Receiver is just as good an excuse to do the mod as any.

Good stuff. That is the exact thing I'm wondering.
In my case I'm running the power lines to a hub so I'd like something rated for just over the 500ma USB maximum.

Yeah, it was more of a hint that there should be a category for modifications.

if you need something above 500mA you should go with 24ga. (That what I'm planning to do on mine 24 for the power and 28/30 on the data line).

Default KYNAR Wire ---> Re: Integrated GPS on my Mini 9 - 10-11-2008, 08:04 PM

Good Job on the mod, but why did you use such BIG wire? Man, you're not arc weldin' here... ;>)
Next time try some AWG30 KYNAR wire wrap wire... (also, use a bit of super glue on the bends and corners to keep the wire in place)
I think you'll be VERY pleased with the results.

Cheers,
Dan
