Looks like we had about the same goal. Not to brag, but I have about 70% of the 'rough' work done after about an hour.

I was just curious what you did with the camera wires? I'm planning to simply extend them, but did you run into any problems with interference?

PS: For anyone else planning to do something like this, just swap the left/right hinge brackets, and mount the screen in reverse. This keeps the whole thing more solid, and eliminates the need for cutting them.

Mine will remain hinged, so I can simply fold it back open rather than need a prop to hold it up near a keyboard, this also allows leaving the power button where it is, and keeps it protected from accidental bumps.

Camera wires didn't need to be extended. The only wires I had to extend were the speaker wires. I think it was because of the touchscreen controller that I was able to make the camera work.

I'd love to see pictures when you get them.

Rob

I wonder how many people would want a custom-tooled spacer for this mod. I started drawing what you'd need in SolidWorks (see attachment), and am thinking that it might not cost all that much to have one machined out of some sturdy plastic or maybe even aluminum (then you could polish the edge... .

I'm thinking that you'd want to remove the back cover from the display, the keyboard, and the bezel around the keyboard (including the touchpad). Then attach the display to the top of this insert, and then use the screws for the bottom cover of the case to attach it to the other side of the insert.

Maybe?

Thats pretty cool, I think that a pre-cut LCD back-cover (like for my tablet) might be pretty cool too. I really tore mine up with the dremel.

Is it possible to just flip the LCD around in the top bezel and do the cutting on the lid instead?
