I just received a replacement keyboard two days ago (US English, in North America) and I can confirm that it hasn't changed from the original in terms of layout. I also had an unresponsive spacebar that never became responsive (even after 2+ weeks of use).

Have swapped out and remapped the apostrophe and the semi-colon keys and now all is well.

One thing that I did notice is that the small keylabels used to mark the keys are now grey whereas on the original they were a bright white which I prefer -- not a big deal though, just happy to have a spacebar that works now

BTW, the cost of a replacement keyboard is $19.99 which you'll get charged if you don't return the original.

I've gotten so used to typing on my remapped Mini keyboard that every time I get onto my desktop computer I am typing semicolons instead of apostrophes!!

I need to get one of these new keyboards before I completely re-wire my brain and forget how to type on a normal layout.

yakker.yak,

Is the part number and description on your packing slip the same as the info on the packing slip for the "new" layout keyboard?

I've just got off the phone with Dell - I've ordered a replacement keyboard based on this part number.

My order consists of:

- U061h - KYBD;66;US-Intl;S-PTG;QH;WIN
- X048J - LCD bezel service kit, with camera hole, silver, 910(Include LCD bezel with camera hole, LCD left/right rubber)
- X051J - Camera assembly service kit, 1.3M, 910 (Include 1.3M camera, LVDS camera cable, LCD left/right rubber)

The first thing I'll do is get the keyboard swapped out. If it turns out to be a variant keyboard, I'll post here. The next thing I'm looking to do is install the 1.3mp webcam (hence the other parts).

3 - 5 business days to delivery, so I expect something at the beginning / middle of next week.

I'm curious if this can be ordered as well, for $19.99 that is pretty inexpensive. I received a replacement (brand new) Dell Mini 9 yesterday and it still has the messed up layout.

It appears that that part number goes with the Dell Vostro A90 which isn't available in the US, only in the UK, which is why it's a US/Intl keyboard.

Here's the two keyboard options for the Vostro A90

M958H KYBD,61,US,ENG,S-PTG,QH,WIN KYBD,61,US,ENG,S-PTG,QH,WIN 0 1 0 Yes 1 (default for US Dell Mini 9)
U061H KYBD,61,US-INTL,S-PTG,QH,WIN KYBD,66,US-INTL,S-PTG,QH,WIN 0 1 0 Yes 1 (default for UK Dell Vostro A90)

GerallK,

Will be interesting to see whether you get the US-INTL keyboard! Maybe they'll surprise you and it arrive this week. Am looking forward to your post when you get the keyboard.

My previous experience with Dell's delivery has been great. I live ~200 miles from their production facility here in Texas, US. Typically, if they have it on hand, I receive it very quickly.

I'll plan pessimistically, and hope for the best.

I just submitted a RFQ for the two part numbers in my previous thread so we'll see. Dell is very responsive especially from the business side of their house. If you work for a company that buys a lot from Dell, you get excellent service. You can't really go wrong with a $20.00 mod.
