Default would this work?? finally took the plunge and looking to upgrade already - 09-03-2009, 10:33 PM

i've had a 10" asus netbook for a while, and i'm pretty much fed up with how slow vista runs on that machine, even with 2g of stock ram... and since pretty much all my other computers are mac's, decided to get a netbook that would be able to run the mac os with high compatibility. (as for the asus, will wait to intall windows 7, which i hope would run much better than vista, and dock it at home to use as the token microsoft unit)

just ordered a mini 9 off dell outlet last night

Inspiron Mini 9 (910) Laptop: Intel Atom Processor N270 (1.6GHz/533Mhz FSB/512K cache) No DVD or CD Drive Ubuntu Linux version 8.04.1

for $221.61shipped

since my plans are to make it into a hackintosh netbook so i can use garage band on the road, i went ahead to order the ssd/ram upgrade right away from

i went with the combo 2g ram/ 64g supertalent combo for $191.98, which after taxes and $15 coupon (laborday15) and free shipping, turns out to a tad bit under 195.00

since i still have a family pack leopard install unused.... and since i'm planning to buy the family pack snow leopard anyways (to upgrade my three other mac products) i think i'm getting a netbook that will be competitive with the macbook air for 400 dollars less...

do you think my current setup would work?

i've read a lot on this forum regarding extended batteries... which would y'all recommend??

thanks in advance!!

Should work. Go read the threads and guides in the OS X section of the forum for all the skinny.

As for extended batteries, I'm not aware of any significant differences among them. Just be aware that you'll want to keep the Mini at BIOS A04 or earlier in order to use the extended battery.

i would have bought a mini 10 at least. garageband will eat up the 64 gb ssd quickly and the 10 has a real hard drive (without hacking out any of the frame). the interface is going to blow on a 9 inch screen too.

"i thinK i remember hearing garage band needs more Screen resolution than 1024×600"

can anyone verify this? that would be a huge bummer....

i was running garageband on a macbook with 80g and it was working fine, and since i don't do much other than word processing and internet browsing, i hope 64 would be ok...
