Memory Question - 08-23-2009, 11:29 PM
I have recently gotten a Mini 9 with the default of 1GB installed. I am going to upgrade it to 2GB. I am assuming this will work well:
Newegg.com - Crucial 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory Model CT25664AC667 - Laptop Memory
My question is this: My lady has a MacBook with two 512MB sticks in it. Can I give her my old 1GB and buy another 1GB stick to bring her up to 2GB? Apple and Crucial's scanner tool both say she needs PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz.
I know the Mini 9 can use faster than 533MHz and downclock it. What did mine come with? The invoice says 1 GB, DDR2, 533 MHZ. The stick itself says 1GB 2Rx16 PC2-6400S-666-12. The Dell support site says my original configuration was PP102 Dual In-Line Memory Module, 1G 800, 128X64, 8, 200, 1 GBIT.
Is this just 533 MHz and she won't be able to use it? Or is it faster that the Mini is just running slower (the PC2-6400 label on the stick) and if so, what speed? Her MacBook evidently likes two sticks of the same size and I imagine the speed needs to be identical as well. Anyone know if hers will downclock as well?
I seem to have used more than one question mark for my "Memory Question."
Thanks for your patience.
Love these forums - it's what convinced me to get a Mini 9!
RunCore SSD comes next, then Leopard!
