What about options for the Mini 10?

Do you have pictures of the webcam port on the Mini 10? If so, see if the port matches that of the Mini 9. If it does, you could *potentially see if MDD could swap the controller/connection wires from a Hoda Mini 9 package, with a 10.2" Hoda touchscreen package they have for the MSI Wind U100 seen here: https://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/Pr...BE6-1254146781

Its a far shot, but might be worth the effort.

I took pictures.... here they are. Can you tell me:

Also, I already purchased a unit from hodatechnology that they pieced together for me.... they sent me the following information as well as the last three pictures in this post:

"Hi Dan,

I will be giving you all the wires with connectors that does not require any soldering. If the connectors do not fit then you will need to do soldering yourself by cutting off the end of connector. "

I think they are giving me a harness for a Mini 9 and a 10.1 inch touch screen from another unit.

ALL feedback/advice is HIGHLY appreciated.

THANKS!

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like you have some soldering to do. That connector on the top right of your motherboard looks nothing like the connector on the Dell Mini 9. It looks like a conglomeration of different devices sharing the same connector.

The Dell Mini 9 webcam connector is on the left side, as opposed to the right on your Mini 10 as seen here, not the one on the most bottom right, but closer to the middle white connector:

It looks like you'll have to find an internal usb connection somewhere and hijack it.

Thanks so much for the informative quick reply!

I was thinking I would have to hijack an internal USB port anyway. Is it going to be that difficult? My unit from Hoda is coming at the latest on tuesday so I have some time to plan it.

Either way, what exactly will be involved?

I agree that it looks like your cam port is not the same as the mini 9.

one alternative, that might eventually be done, is to use the bluetooth plug, seen here, where someone sounds like they had a bad board and burned it

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...cs-inside.html

the idea is that you take one of the existing inputs, either cam or bluetooth, insert a hub in between, then plug the cam or bluetooth back into the hub. you are limited in how many devices can be plugged into the hub by the power to that cam or bluetooth.

to get around this, you can tap into power (you'll have to see if anyone mapped out good places on the 10v), and use the cam or bluetooth plug just for data input.

the issue here is that you will have to find the pin out for the bluetooth plug. if you can find which is the d+ and d-, then you know where the data from the hub goes. then, you will have to find the plug that fits the socket.

if you are willing to sacrifice a usb port, you could solder an internal hub to the 4 wires that go to an internal usb port. you'd want to block that port from the outside, to keep from plugging two devices into the same port.

other option is to find out if there is an empty wwan area that you could solder to. in the mini 9, I think it is pin 36 and 38 (not 100% here), and this was used to input the data from the hub.

does that make sense? I did a lot of this modding in an eeePC. the idea is the same, it's just finding places to tap into. or, wait for someone to produce a solderless option so you don't short something out.

one last option is to run a usb plug from the inside of the case to plug into a usb port. I did this on an eeePC and then had a plug bulge that looked like a flash drive sticking out. again, this was to save from having to solder to the motherboard (the traces are very small on these things).

good luck.
