I just took mine apart and checked it out.
Heatsink pads were all messed up. Sticker under the gpu one, also it was torn.
atom heat pad was missing part of the core, which is sad since the core is so damn small how can you not cover it?
temperatures after greasing the cores with arctic silver and then fixing the pads (i had to use both and re-use the same pads because i have yet to go get new ones) are lower. Instead of hitting 72-74C during hulu fullscreen movie playback, i hit 67. Idle is now down to around 40C rather than high 40's to almost 50C.
I also removed the metal screen behind the side vent to increase air flow.
I believe the distance between the cores and the keyboard tray is probably too small to handle a heatsink on top of the cores. What's needed is a new machined heat spreader.
The keyboard tray has a plastic sheet under it to keep dust and crap out of the computer, this is necessary so i didn't remove it. The best idea i have as far as chassis modding is removing part or all of the cross member behind the keyboard near the lcd screen that joins the two sides of the palm-rest (top of bottom part of laptop) together. This will allow a huge gap above the keyboard yet out of the way of most common use (less chance of dust and crap getting in).
These were taken with my cellphone so sorry.
Underside of heat spreader.
