Default Intel Wireless 5350 Wifi/Wimax card and Dell Mini9 - 07-31-2009, 06:53 PM

Can I use all the functionality of the Intel 5350 wifi/wimax card in my Dell Mini 9 in the WLAN slot (replacing the stock WLAN card)?

Thanks

Yes - if you install the needed third antenna.

While I searched around on other discussions I couldn't find any examples of someone using the WiMAX feature with the Intel 5350 on the Mini 9.

Is that because it is too early to find WiMAX service, or because the Mini 9 has the WLAN slot USB-pin issue as the Asus EEE?

Has anyone tested the full functionality of this card including WiMAX on the Mini 9 or heard of anyone who has it all working?

The 5350 card should work fine - the WLAN slot is full MiniPCIe. WiMax service is indeed rare and requires a subscription, though it is expanding. (In my hometown, Clearwire wants to offer Wimax but got turned down for putting up a tower for it.)

I received my Intel 5350 adapter and all day I've been trying to get the Intel Proset software installed - getting nowhere on the WiMAX part. I'm running Windows 7 on the Mini 9. Intel doesn't have Win7 drivers for the 5350 yet, but I've read that the Vista drivers might work. The WiFi portion is functional - I get a good wireless connection, but the WiMAX drivers will not install and the Intel Proset setup ends up rolling back the installation. This seems consistent with what I've read on other threads where people run into a dead end trying to get the WiMAX working on the Mini 9. Or maybe it's a Windows 7 thing, I'm not sure..

I know this is oldish, but I'd like to know if any progress was made or if it was an entirely pointless effort.
