Default What is another way to get Bluetooth on mini 9? - 07-27-2009, 02:18 AM

I called Dell today to order the BT internal card that normally comes with the Mini 9 and they quoted me $43.99 which it says is 19.99. I said no thanks. Is there a usb dongle that is compatible with Mini 9 that will allow me to do the same functions as the internal card such as transfering files and connecting my phone? Thanks.

You have several options.

1. if you want an internal module, then you can buy a third party version off of ebay. Search the forums here for "alternative bluetooth module". Or just pick this:

Alternative internal bluetooth module

2. if you want a small USB dongle, they can be had for $2 more or less from dealextreme.com and/or other chinese sites. Here's an example:

DealExtreme: $2.46 Super Mini Bluetooth 2.0 Adapter Dongle (Vista Compatible)

Dell Mini 9 (96Gb) | White | SL 10.6.5 + Win7 Pro using EasyBCD 2.0 | 2G GSkill 667 RAM | No Webcam | BIOS A05 | 32G Runcore SSD | 32G SDHC (ext) | 32G SDHC (int w/ MR04 Card) | 1505 802.11n | Internal BT | Chrome Apple Logo
Dell Vostro A90 (96Gb) | SL 10.6.5 | 2G HyperX | 0.3Webcam | BIOS A04 | 64G Runcore SSD | 32G SDHC (ext) | and other stock features

I messed up when I ordered my spare Mini 9 during that last sale and didn't get BT installed.
Now it's just a matter of some elbow-grease when everything shows up!

i don't think the BT option was available during the sale, otherwise i would have ordered it.

BT didn't show up as an available option for the first couple of days, but it did appear for the last few hours of the special pricing. Of course my order was "in production" by then, so I couldn't cancel and reorder without incurring a restocking fee.

Does anyone know if this OS X compatible from first hand experience?
